What You May Not Know About Dollhouses

dollhouse, history, DIY, handmade, crafts, craftsmanship,

There have been various forms of dollhouses complete with furnishings, people, livestock and pets for many thousands of years. These miniature houses actually go back into the years of the Egyptians. However, they were not constructed as toys for play purposes but a part of their religious purposes. The earliest examples of dollhouses were found five thousand years ago in Egyptian tombs.  Their dollhouses included replicas of their servants, pets, livestock, and household possessions.   Continue reading “What You May Not Know About Dollhouses”

Crafting Video Tutorials Index

crafting, DIY, paint, homemade

I am always looking for fresh new ideas in craftwork.  Unfortunately, this can be rather time consuming. Therefore, I decided to make a list of various craft sites with video tutorials.  This will make things easier than wallowing through search engines ever time.  Search engines are fantastic but can bring up a lot of unrelated items that you are not exactly what you are looking for.  So, making a web page with lists just makes life a whole lot simpler for me and hopefully you. Bookmark the page and you will have it at your finger tips as well.  Continue reading “Crafting Video Tutorials Index”

Kid Fun … The Best Fun

Easter, bunny, kids, craftsOnce a week, I go over to see my granddaughters, ages 4 and 9, to do arts and crafts. A fun time to spend with the granddaughters who just love the artistic side of life. The best day of the week.  We needed some fun and refreshing projects to do so I began scouting around the Internet for ideas.  Since Easter is around the corner, thought it would fun to make some new decorations for this year.  I plugged popsicle sticks and clothes pins into Google and came up with quite a few wonderful projects I think they will like.  Continue reading “Kid Fun … The Best Fun”

Oddities in Crafting – Human Genius

You bet!  I have more oddities.  However, these oddities are physical constructions straight out of the human imagination not Mother Nature. Some people just go above and beyond with unusual and amazing ways to express their creative ideas and capabilities.  Let nothing cease to amaze you, as soon before your very eyes, people pull some real oddities from the inner workings of their minds.   Follow me as I take you on a journey, barely skimming the surface I might add, of just a few of the people who have created from the genius within.

St Patrick’s Day

March 17th is St Patrick’s Day.  Everyone, Irish by blood or Irish by heart, love a good celebration.   Well, that doesn’t matter.  The patron Saint Patrick was not Irish himself.  St Patricks Day, DIY, crafts, craft painting, history, He was actually born in Britain when ruled by Rome.  Patrick was  kidnapped by the Irish, brought back to Ireland and enslaved for ten years. When he escaped returning to Britain and then later to France where he entered a monastery where he studied for 12 years becoming a Catholic bishop.  He later had a dream about Ireland which called to him to return.  His mission was to convert Ireland away from its Pagan culture and turn them to Christianity.  March 17 is the date of St Patrick’s death.  At some point during the 7th century after his death,  Irish Catholics began to celebrate St Patrick’s  passing.  They were in truth celebrating the conversion of Paganism to Catholicism through the diligence of St Patrick. Activating Brain Power

Thought I would let you know of the many projects that occupy me during any given day of the week.  Never just work on one project at a time.  Rather I have a routine of rolling from one project into the next, and the next and the next throughout the day. There are my crochet projects, painting projects, word puzzles, you name it.  While I am sitting down crafting,   I enjoy a good documentary on Netflix or YouTube video from one of my many subscribed channels.  Always looking for a new something to learn about or to do.  I keep my mind active, questioning, wondering, searching.  At the age of 65, my whole life is being revamped.  New job, new home, new life!  It’s all in the working.  Brain power in action leads to a healthy brain and life.

Jelly Bean Madness

Jelly Beans…. DIY, crafts, crafting, jelly beans that was the first thought that came to my mind upon awakening today.  Jelly beans yummy, yummy jelly beans which then started me wondering just how jelly beans are made.   Perhaps because I was ogling the jelly beans at Hobby Lobby when  I was supposed to be searching for craft supplies.  One can get so easily side tracked by something so simple! Fortunately for my blood sugar levels, I left them all on the shelf…boo hoo.  Still has not stopped me from wondering how those luscious little sugary morsels are made.  Leave it to me, I shall get to the bottom of this.  Continue reading “Jelly Bean Madness”

Crochet Some Fantastic Potholders or Scrubbies!

DIY, craft, crafting, crochetThis morning, several chicken potholders were in one of the features on my Facebook page.  It immediately brought me down memory lane.  My mother had many potholders she had crocheted in her younger years. They were so pretty and so different than the things we see now today.  Some were shaped like flowers with others being square but patterned, others having five sides, etc. They were awesome.  Too pretty to use.  Sad to say the books she used are long gone.  The vintage patterns were always special to me.  It makes me sad to think of all the old pattern books from yesteryear are no longer around.  Continue reading “Crochet Some Fantastic Potholders or Scrubbies!”

Preparing for Craft Festivals

The time has come to start deciding what will be necessary to create a mobile store for craft festivals.  One can not just bring a table and flop stuff on top of a barren surface expecting it to appeal to a prospective customer.  They will just keep walking by.   Just as in a department store, one must take care to have appeal and enticement.  craft fair, craft show, craft festival

Knowing the size of your shop will be very important in deciding how many tables you can bring.  Three has worked well for me in the past as they will fit under my EZup awning.  Outside you may get a larger area and will need it, as an awning will be important to keep off the beating sun.  Inside, spots have been a tad smaller and was only able to have a two table configuration.  So check and plan the lay out before you leave home.  Once you arrive at the show, the object will be to set up so you are ready and calm when the first customers arrive.    Continue reading “Preparing for Craft Festivals”
