Remember That?

Baby Boomers, memories, 1950;s, 1960;s, nostalgia, Remembering things from the years gone by recreates some a very special time for all us Baby Boomers.  If you don’t remember stick with me as we stroll down Memory Lane. Then, let us all know what you think about the 1950s/1960s and how us Boomers grew up.  So many wonderful things existed back then. Life was much simpler or was it. There are pros and cons to every era.

Things were simpler because we were just kids and our parents took care of everything as we ran around freely just being kids.  We played on the streets till the street lights came on.  We drank from the hose when we played outside.  We could walk to the library, movies, or school alone with no worries. Rode our bicycles everywhere. No name brand anything to keep up with. Played outside barefoot running wildly catching lightening bugs. Simply eating cherries in the backyard on lawn chairs as a family chatting away.  We were taught no matter what our job may be, president of a large company or janitor mopping floors, we were to do the very best job possible. It was harder because we were instilled with “Duck and Cover” courtesy of Bert the Turtle. There was an imminent fear of destruction during the Cuban Missile Crisis. School reminded us with “Duck and Cover” drills.  Television reminded us with Bert the Turtle Civil Defense announcements. The memories are evocative while looking at these photos of a time not so long ago.  It all brings back  the smells, sounds, tastes and feelings of a life that once was.  Oh how the world has changed but I’ll leave that up to the next generation of kids to tell you all about it.

Kid Fun … The Best Fun

Easter, bunny, kids, craftsOnce a week, I go over to see my granddaughters, ages 4 and 9, to do arts and crafts. A fun time to spend with the granddaughters who just love the artistic side of life. The best day of the week.  We needed some fun and refreshing projects to do so I began scouting around the Internet for ideas.  Since Easter is around the corner, thought it would fun to make some new decorations for this year.  I plugged popsicle sticks and clothes pins into Google and came up with quite a few wonderful projects I think they will like.  Continue reading “Kid Fun … The Best Fun”

Treasury of Links — I Share With You

time to improveToday, I have been working on setting up my bookmarks for everyone to enjoy. Just wanted to share the great things I am finding throughout my travels on the web.  I especially like the free sites with free patterns or lessons. I am all about learning how to do something and doing it myself.  I will be adding new links on and off in the future.  I will post them in a contrasting color making them stand out as new.   I hope you enjoy.

Activating Brain Power

Thought I would let you know of the many projects that occupy me during any given day of the week.  Never just work on one project at a time.  Rather I have a routine of rolling from one project into the next, and the next and the next throughout the day. There are my crochet projects, painting projects, word puzzles, you name it.  While I am sitting down crafting,   I enjoy a good documentary on Netflix or YouTube video from one of my many subscribed channels.  Always looking for a new something to learn about or to do.  I keep my mind active, questioning, wondering, searching.  At the age of 65, my whole life is being revamped.  New job, new home, new life!  It’s all in the working.  Brain power in action leads to a healthy brain and life.

Better Days Are Coming

Some days are just better than others especially when sinuses go crazy with ringing and clogged ears, pounding headache, facial pain .  Not much progress  has been accomplished thus far today.  Therefore,  I have designated this day as a regroup and reground day.  Need my sinuses cleared out and regain my peace of mind.

Have been doing a lot of thinking and planning lately which is quite daunting.   Cleaning out the house of unnecessary things downsizing to live in a much much smaller home.   Yup from 2,200 square feet of living space, double garage, four bedrooms, two full baths, dining room, breakfast nook, kitchen and living room, back porch, and an acre of lawn care has become quite overwhelming at this stage of life. DIY, Home, Downsizing Downsizing  into a tiny house and a high-top RV  to go to craft shows or just gad about the US seeing the sites.   The bucket list grows daily of all the things to see and do.   So, that’s the plan.

May take a year to get the house sale ready, as it is only myself and I move slow to ensure I am doing things properly.  I will miss Mr. Easter Island Man but will get over it.  I may miss a lot of things but not more than I miss two of my children living up north I have not seen in a very long time.  My children are what give me the greatest pleasure along with my nine grandchildren. Hello world – Jeanne Here!

crafting, senior citizen, photography, crochet

Hi, Jeanne here.  A Baby Boomer who is passionate for crafting, turning that passion into one of the greatest adventures ever!  Having plenty of time, now that it is just myself with the kids grown and off on their own, I embark upon a brand new way of life finally pursuing what I love to do.
In the past, I have looked into and/or tried many different crafts.  However, my first love became painting with acrylics.  It all started when a friend showed me how she painted on old roofing slate.  Awesome!  I loved to draw and color and knew I could turn the drawings into paintings which would not just be incredible fun but a far better way to display my art.  The sad day came when I ran out of roofing shingles.  What now?  Well, my creativity took over and I discovered river rocks.  Not only did I get outside into the sun and air to wander the stream beds but got plenty of exercise and enjoyed the plethora of flora, and fauna surrounding me.  Slung over my shoulder was a big sac in which was stashed all strange, unusual and quite regular rocks large, medium and small.  Those were soon turned into doorstops, paperweights, or just a cool conversation piece.  One painting surface led to another and soon was painting ceramic figurines, name plaques on wood, picture plaques, you name it I experimented.  Presently, trying my hand at turning light bulbs into hot air balloons thus extending my surface to glass which is quite interesting.  Can’t wait to discover what’s next once I conquer hot air balloons.
